Using Unavia
By creating an account or using Unavia, you agree to these terms. You must be at least 18 years old, provide accurate information, keep your account secure, and comply with applicable laws.
Our marketplace role
Unavia provides technology that helps clients discover and engage independent workers. Workers are not employees, agents, or representatives of Unavia. Users decide whether to work together and are responsible for agreeing on the scope, timing, price, and suitability of the work.
Community standards
Communicate respectfully and provide truthful profile, credential, and job information.
Do not harass, discriminate, threaten, defraud, or impersonate another person.
Do not use Unavia to arrange illegal, dangerous, or prohibited services.
Respect agreed schedules, scope, rates, property, privacy, and safety requirements.
Do not manipulate reviews, verification, payments, or platform safeguards.
Jobs, payments, and disputes
Payment processing is provided by third parties such as Stripe and may be subject to additional terms. Any price, platform fee, authorization, cancellation condition, and payout timing shown before confirmation forms part of the transaction. Report a payment or work problem promptly through support so available records can be reviewed.
Verification and reviews
A verification badge means specified information or documents were reviewed; it is not a guarantee of skill, licensing, safety, identity beyond the check performed, or future conduct. Reviews should reflect genuine completed experiences. Clients remain responsible for confirming that a worker is appropriate and legally qualified for the requested work.
Independent contractor status
Workers who accept jobs through Unavia do so as independent contractors. They are not employees, agents, or representatives of Unavia, and no work order creates an employment relationship with us.
Workers decide whether to accept, decline, or cancel any job, and are never penalised by Unavia for declining.
Workers choose their own hours and control how the work is performed. Unavia does not direct or supervise it.
Workers supply their own tools, equipment, and transport unless a client agrees otherwise.
Workers may work for other platforms, agencies, or clients, including direct competitors of Unavia.
Unavia does not withhold income tax, CPP, or EI. Workers report their own income to the CRA and remit what they owe.
Employment standards entitlements — overtime, vacation pay, holiday pay, termination notice — do not apply to work arranged here.
Unavia does not provide WSIB coverage, health benefits, disability coverage, or liability insurance. We recommend carrying your own.
Engaging a worker through Unavia does not make a client their employer either, provided the client does not direct the work in a way that creates an employment relationship under applicable law. If you believe an arrangement has been misclassified, contact
[email protected] — classification is determined by the substance of the relationship under Ontario law, not by this document alone.
Cancellations and refunds
Money is authorized on the client's card when a booking is confirmed, but not captured until the work is marked complete. An authorization is a hold, not a charge.
If the client cancels before work begins, the hold is released in full and no service fee is charged.
If the worker cancels, the hold is released in full and the job returns to other applicants.
If neither side confirms before the confirmation window closes, the booking is released automatically and the hold returned.
For hourly hires only, a client may release a reduced amount for work partially completed. The service fee is recalculated on the reduced amount.
Fixed-price jobs cannot be partially released. A fixed-price job is agreed as a whole — if it was not delivered, open a dispute rather than reducing the amount unilaterally.
A client may also dispute a charge directly with their bank instead of using the process above. When that happens the funds are withdrawn from Unavia by the card network while the dispute is investigated, regardless of what was agreed here. Where the work was performed as agreed, Unavia absorbs the loss — we do not claw back a worker's earnings for a dispute they did not cause. Where the work was not performed as agreed, was misrepresented, or the account acted fraudulently, we reserve the right to recover the amount from the worker's future earnings or account balance. Repeatedly disputing charges instead of using the in-app process may result in suspension.
Reporting a problem freezes the payment immediately and routes the job to our team. We review the messages, timestamps, and records available to us and decide whether to release, partially release, or refund, usually within 5 business days. Released holds and refunds are processed by our payment provider and typically appear within 5–10 business days depending on your bank. Service fees are refunded whenever the underlying payment is refunded — we do not keep a fee on work that did not happen.
Prohibited services
Unavia may not be used to arrange, offer, or solicit:
Anything illegal under federal, provincial, or municipal law.
Work requiring a licence or permit the worker does not hold — electrical, plumbing, gas, HVAC, asbestos, structural, and other regulated trades.
Childcare, babysitting, eldercare, personal care, or any work involving unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults. Unavia does not perform the vetting these require and does not support them.
Medical, nursing, therapeutic, legal, financial, or other regulated professional advice.
Adult services, escort services, or anything of a sexual nature.
Transport, handling, or sale of weapons, controlled substances, or stolen goods.
Debt collection, repossession, surveillance, or intimidation of any kind.
Work in conditions that are unsafe, or requiring equipment or training the worker does not have.
Both sides are responsible for declining work that falls into these categories. Posting or accepting prohibited work may result in immediate suspension. If you are unsure whether something is permitted, ask before posting.
Safety and incident reporting
If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first. Report to us afterwards — do not wait for us before getting help.
Report an incident as soon as you are safe, and within 72 hours where possible, at
[email protected] or through Help in the app. This includes injury, property damage or theft, threats, violence, harassment or discrimination, impairment, requests to move payment off the platform, and anyone who appears to be under 18.
Any payment on the job is frozen immediately so it cannot be released while the matter is open.
We may suspend an account pending review. Suspension is not a finding of fault.
We review what we hold — messages, timestamps, verification records, and prior reports.
We tell you the outcome that affects you, but not what action was taken against another user's account.
We cooperate with law enforcement where required and will preserve records on request.
We are not an emergency service and cannot dispatch help. We do not provide insurance for injury, property damage, or loss arising from a job — both sides should consider their own coverage. Blocking someone in the app stops their contact immediately and does not require our review.
Content and intellectual property
You keep ownership of content you submit. You grant Unavia permission to host, display, process, and use that content as needed to operate, secure, promote, and improve the service. Do not upload content you do not have the right to use.
Suspension and termination
We may limit or suspend access when reasonably necessary to investigate safety issues, fraud, legal risk, non-payment, or violations of these terms. You may stop using Unavia at any time, subject to outstanding transactions and records we must retain.
Disclaimers and liability
Unavia is provided on an “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by law, Unavia does not guarantee uninterrupted availability, a particular worker or job, or the quality or outcome of services arranged between users. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as Unavia evolves. Material changes will be communicated where required. Questions can be sent to
[email protected].
